Week 4 of 6!!

Week #4 2/24/16
Hola Everyone!

This week has been really good! I have been going along same as all the weeks in the past studying hard and progressing slowly but surely! I love the experiences that im having here, the people im meeting the things im learning and the spirit im feeling! I am so happy to be a missionary and represent the church of Jesus Christ! I have become more and more grateful for the opportunity that I have to be here, and the more I come to know about what i will be doing and the things I will be doing and the lessons I will be teaching I become more and more grateful! In classes were finally beginning to learn harder concepts of Spanish that are used a lot more so it has been nice to progress in the language a lot this week! We worked on the preterite tense in Spanish all week and teaching the commandments! My language skills jumped a lot this week and it has been very encouraging! The more and more we practice lessons here the more and more comfortable I feel teaching them in Spanish! We also earned the future tense this week but i need to practice with that one more! My companion and I are getting better at teaching in unison and it makes lessons go a lot better! I had one difficult day this week but im not gonna talk about it because it doesn't matter and its all part of learning and part of the mission!! (it wasn't too difficult, I was just not feeling super motivated like i usually do) Sunday was great as always, talks her in sacrament are kinda like Russian roulette (idk how to spell that) and this week I was called up to speak. They don't warn you beforehand they just call your name and you go up and do your best! Im not the best public speaker in the world, in fact its one of the most difficult things for me to do, but it went really well, I talked about faith and shared some scriptures it was good! luckily they only ask that you speak for five minutes! after that we had some devotionals and study time! This week so far has been different than most. I was called into the mtc presidents office on Monday and received a phone call from my dad. I was told that my grandma had just passed away and it was difficult to hear! I was sad for a bit but told myself that everything would be okay because she is now in a better place. So this week I have been thinking a lot about the plan of salvation. For those of you who are not members of this church the plan of salvation is Gods plan for us to live on this earth, learn, grow, have families, be happy, and eventually return to live with heavenly father again. I have been studying this plan a lot to find comfort in the passing of my grandma and have been praying that i would be able to remain focused on the work at hand which for me is studying the gospel and learning Spanish! I have learned a lot and it has made me so grateful for this plan! through this plan I know that I will see my grandma again and I know that my family can be together forever! Now for a more positive note, I found out this week that in the past week when we were told we would be here for 7 weeks we were given false info! so im happy to have the news that I will head out to El Salvador after 2 more weeks here in training! Cant believe I have almost been out for a month! time is flying by! Temple this morning was great! always a nice relaxing way to start the week off! Im excited for what this week has to offer and love hearing from all of you so please continue to write!
Thanks for reading! here is another testimony: (you can use google translate to understand)

Week 3 of 7?

Week #3 2/16/16
This week was really great again! Its east to say that when you are in the CCM! not too much hardships, fake investigators, nice beds, good food, warm showers! So i titled my letter this week 3 of 7 with a question mark because ewe found out yesterday that since my district came on an off week we wouldn't be leaving after the original time of 6 weeks.. So now im here for 7! which is bitter sweet for me! like I said last time I am ready to go work and teach real people, but for the last two weeks im here I will have a Latino companion so I will most likely learn some good Spanish!! I look forward to that challenge! schedule keeps flipping for us cause were a special group so this week were writing after only 6 days! I will loose my favorite maestro (teacher) this week because in the morning new north Americans get here! so im sad about that because he is definitely the best teacher here! but I am sure that whoever replaces him will be great as well! Food is still good here! we haven't had one meal that I didn't like! except some fish.. but I drenched it in lime so it didn't taste like fish anymore haha so it wasn't that bad! (for those of you who dont know that is the one food I really dont like!) Today we got to go to the temple again and as always it is my favorite part of the week! its nice to get out of the CCM and the temple here is beautiful! As the weeks go by though I am getting more and more excited to see what El Salvador brings!! there's two other kids in my district that will be going to my mission! Yesterday I cut one of the kids hair in my district and it was pretty great! It turned out really good and im not sure if that is a good thing because now everyone knows I can cut hair.. but it was funny and a fun experience! This weeks learning was really good! we are finally getting into grammar that I dont know how to do like future and progressive tenses which help with teaching!! I am still learning lots practicing teaching lessons with the pamphlets and memorizing phrases for lessons and stuff! Over all it is still going really well! definitely has slowed down a little because I have learned a lot of the easy stuff but I am learning at a good pace! hopefully by the end of the 7 weeks now I will be ready to teach some good lessons in Spanish!!! I probably wont have any other pictures while im here because we arnt aloud to take them like anywhere and i don't think were aloud to send them in the CCM so sorry about that but when im in the field ill be sure to send lots! I am absolutely filled with joy to be here and love learning and preparing to teach the people of El Salvador! This week was another fantastic one and im pumped and ready top go for the next!!

This week i want to bear testimony of the atonement of Jesus Christ!
Thanks everyone for reading!! hope all is well!

Ready to go to work!!

Week #2 2/10/16
hey everyone!
This week was another really good one here in the CCM! I am learning so much so fast and i absolutely love it! I have studied more and prayed more in the past two weeks than i ever have in my life and I can truly see the blessings that have come from my hard work! I am still picking up on the language fast and my pronunciation is getting a lot better! I usually learn like one or two grammar concepts a day and my goal is to memorize 50 verbs and 100 words every day! I have been doing pretty good! I have the first vision memorized in Spanish and can still recite the baptismal invitation and the missionary purpose! this week while teaching our progressing investigators I learned how to teach the restoration, and the doctrine of Christ and the book of Mormon with the pamphlets and scriptures! we usually practice these things with the Latinos here in the CCM and they all say that i sound really good and am doing good with Spanish so that is very motivating! Id say the hardest thing is probably the language for me. But with time im getting better and better so im grateful for that! I titled the email ready to go to work because everyone was right, after 2 weeks in here you kinda just wanna leave and go do the real work haha! I love it here tho, and am probably not ready but still. When you learn the lessons and realize you can teach well enough to share a message and explain the BOM and the doctrine of Christ you just wanna go teach it!! or at least I do! I have had some really col experiences this week during personal study! I was sitting at my desk and didn't know what to study so I knelt down and said a prayer and asked heavenly father the help me know what I should study. I opened my scriptures and in the cover was my patriarchal blessing so i decided to read it. After about a minute i came across the words, i urge you to study the life of the savior in the scriptures. This was an overwhelming spiritual experience for me to have my prayer answered so fast and so exact. I have been trying really hard to pack everything into personal study time, from reading in Spanish to trying to finish the b.o.m. to reading about Christ ans it has been great haha! Ive learned a whole lot and found some great scriptures that have touched me as i read searching for specific things! We still get to play sport every day and its really fun! my district usually plays volleyball and we now have an ongoing tournament its fun! we arnt aloud to play soccer anymore cause the Latinos get to intense while playing and a few weeks ago one of the elders broke his leg! so that's a bummer but its okay! Sunday was a testimony meeting and we all had to get up and talk, which at first i was really nervous for cause that's like my least favorite thing to do but it ended up going really well! I knew what i wanted to say and was able to say it all in Spanish so that was a blessing as well! my companion shared something in his testimony that stuck out to me, he said I do not speak good Spanish at all but I know that the spirit does and thats all that matters. He is a really good guy and has taught me a lot during study time! I also had to teach a lesson in district meeting on Sunday which was just as intimidating haha! but i did well and it ended up going really well! Last night we got to listen to a devotional given by elder Anderson and it was really good! It was with a group of all the north Americans so it was in English which was really nice hahah!! This morning we all got to attend the temple and It was easily the highlight of my week as im sure it will be every week! i apologize for misspelled words and such, Spanish keyboards are hard to type on!
Anyways, this week was really great and Im so happy to be here!

Thanks for reading!

El don de lenguas es real!!!

Week #1 2/2/16

HOLA!,
Week one down in the CCM and only 5 more to go! this week was seriously amazing! I love the people, the meals, the teachers, the classes, and everything else! We are pretty much always in classes or at a meal so it gets long sometimes and i am very tired by the end of the day but I have been learning a lot! Its beautiful here in Guatemala! the landscape flying over was gorgeous! its like a sea of green with tons of big crater looking areas with houses packed on top of them! all the way to the edge before the drop offs! the mtc is super nice, i like it a lot! When I got here i didn't have the right immunization forms so I had to get a shot and that wasn't fun haha i have to get tetanus on Thursday as well cause its only valid for 5 years here. Not looking forward to that haha! On the first day the let us nap after we interviewed with the president and then we jumped right into Spanish! it has been really hard but as i work even harder i have seen the lords hand in helping me learn the language! I have the missionary purpose, the invitation to be baptized, descent prayers, and my testimony down! I can teach the basics of the doctrine of Christ, repentance, baptism, etc and I can talk a little bit about the b.o.m. pretty well! ( story to come soon about that) We have to sit with the Latinos here that stay for 2 weeks at all the meals and we arent aloud to speak English so that has been pretty fun}! i got to know a few elders pretty well but they all just left this morning! we get new ones tomorrow, about 80 of them!! We play sports from 7-8 in the mornings and its pretty fun, volleyball and basketball! there's also a pretty nice gym! I saw my friend from college here and it was pretty funny! It was nice to see a familiar face! she isn't in my district but we spend a lot of time with them on Sundays so I have had a chance to talk to her a little. I love my companion and my entire district Q the guys are awesome and my companion is Elder Brooks! he is from Washington! hes really cool, we get along well! Every week we have to have a talk and a lesson prepared for church! i didnt have to speak though so i was relieved haha! and i didn't have to teach in the district meeting either! i will this week though! I am getting better at the language every day and I cant wait to see what I will be doing at the end of the 6 weeks! My comp and I had to teach a progressing investigator twice this week and the first lesson went really well.. the second one though was really bad haha it was embarrassing! luckily it isn't a real investigator. the days of the week are all pretty similar, wake up get ready eat and study, ALL DAY! but Sunday and today were really nice! Sunday I didn't understand a whole lot but could feel that the spirit was strong! it was nice to listen and try to understand what pwople were saying but not have to worry about replying! Today was really really awesome! we woke up earlier than normal and went to the temple! the temple in Guatemala is beautiful! then we came back had breakfast and prepared for our city tour! that was really fu! we got to see the city and walk around the marketplace and buy stuff if we wanted, but i didn't buy anything but a cool pen! then, and heres where my story comes in.. We had to go in the plaza and give out book of Mormons!! We are the only district to ever do that in the first week of being here! it was really crazy! My companion and I handed out three, and got two peoples phone number and addresses! We sat down next to them and told them we were missionaries and asked if we could share with them a message about Jesus Christ! and they all said sure! it was awesome! then we talked about the book and testified to them that WE knew it was a true book and it was the word of god! oh yea and all of this is in Spanish!! After one week I am able to talk with people and teach a simple lesson about the book of Mormon and the principles of the gospel! I had a really great experience doing some real missionary work and I couldn't believe how well I was speaking the language! we walked away from our first lesson and I told my companion, ¨wow the spirit just taught a good lesson because I definitely do not know that much Spanish!! The gift of tongues is seriously real! I have seen sooo much help from the lord in my efforts and I am happy! I am out of time but that is pretty much all that happened this week! the highlight was definitely teaching the lessons to the people!
Thanks for reading!

I love my mission and I can not wait to get out of the CCM and teach people for real like I was able to today!!

Adiós! thanks for reading!
